Summer of 2020 was a season of feast or famine according to many property managers.  There didn’t seem to be much in between.  For urban markets and those that rely on international travelers it’s been a difficult time, but for hosts and managers in drive-to destinations, opening up delivered a frenzy of demand that was unprecedented. For Ontario-based CottageLINK Rental Management and Delaware’s Seachange Vacation Rentals, the summer brought a new set of highs and lows, challenges, and victories.  In this episode, the CEOs of these two busy agencies share their thoughts on what transpired and look forward to what 2021 might bring, and how they are preparing. For both of us initially, we felt there was a good chance summer 2020 might be canceled, but the situation reversed in early June both in Delaware and Ontario, and from there we didn’t look back.On the way, we dealt with cancellations, furloughs, openings, and closings of borders and quarantine hotspots, the impact of new cleaning protocols, and changing guest demographics. In this episode, you’ll hear about the crazy summer our businesses experienced and what lessons are being taken into 2021.  Neither of these companies wants to lose the momentum that has brought both record revenue and occupancy so there are a few processes and new systems being adopted that will filter into next year.We learned:

  • The waitlist is here to stay
  • The importance of education for new guests
  • Value of Touch Stay guides to keep guests informed
  • How networking with other agencies gave support and good connections.
  • To hang on in there….the season will come to an end!
